Dr. Michael Safir, MD is a board-certified urologist affiliated with Align Surgical Associates in Los Angeles who specializes in trans masculine bottom surgery procedures. Dr. Safir is board-certified by the American Board of Urology. He has subspecialty certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPM-RS), and completed two year-long fellowships in Male (UCSF) and Female (UCLA) Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery. He is one of a handful of urologists in the world with individual fellowship training and experience in both male and female genital reconstruction.

Dr. Safir offers Simple Release and Full Metoidioplasty. You can custom design your Meta to include any combination of: Vaginectomy, Urethral Lengthening, and Scrotoplasty. Metoidioplasty is an outpatient procedure, with an optional one-night hospital stay (extra fees apply.) Patients should plan to stay in Los Angeles for approximately two weeks following surgery.
Surgery Requirements
Dr. Safir is a member of WPATH and follows WPATH guidelines for surgery. You will need to provide two referrals from qualified mental health professionals, and a letter from your hormone specialist stating you have been on 12 months of continuous hormones, unless clinically contraindicated.
Financing & Insurance
Dr. Safir accepts a wide range of insurance including managed Medi-Cal plans. He also accepts credit/debit cards, cashier's check, money order, wire transfer and medical financing via CareCredit. Medicare is not accepted.
Booking a Consultation
Dr. Safir is available for phone or in-person consultations in Los Angeles for a fee of $200. An in-person consultation is not required for booking a surgery date.
