Metoidioplasty in New York City
Dr. Marano is highly skilled at performing all of the popular methods of metoidioplasty, from Simple Meta to Full Meta with vaginectomy, urethral lengthening (UL), scrotoplasty and testicular implants. If you're unsure about which method to pursue, Dr. Marano will clarify the pros and cons of each and how they relate to your goals during your consultation.
People seeking metoidioplasty have various reasons for choosing this procedure. While complications requiring follow-up stages are possible, metoidioplasty is generally considered less invasive than phalloplasty and many patients value the opportunity to achieve their goals following a same day, all-in-one surgery. Standing-to-pee, the option of non-binary aesthetics and lower overall cost are also considerations. However, if you're on the fence between metoidioplasty and phalloplasty, Dr. Marano offers the following advice:

To reduce complications, Dr. Marano requires vaginectomy if UL is also being performed. For those who have not yet had a hysterectomy, vaginectomy can be performed at the same time as the hysterectomy.
To create the scrotum, Dr. Marano uses rotated labial flaps (V-Y scrotoplasty). Patients can choose between saline- or silicone-filled testicular implants.
Dr. Marano’s team includes reconstructive urologist Dr. Karl Coutinho, who assists with UL and implantation of testicular implants. Dr. Coutinho also offers repair surgeries for urological complications following metoidioplasty.
Dr. Marano offers metoidioplasty in New York City as well as the greater Newark, New Jersey area. He operates at Lenox Hill Plastic Surgery Center in NYC, as well as Short Hills Surgery Center and North Fullerton Surgery Center in New Jersey.
