Dr. Jonathan Keith, MD, FACS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon specializing in gender-affirming surgery. He was the first surgeon in New Jersey to offer the full spectrum of gender-affirming procedures, including metoidioplasty. In 2025, Dr. Keith co-founded GAMMA (Gender Affirming Medical and Microsurgical Associates) with Dr. Drew Marano, a practice dedicated to providing safe, affirming, and expert surgical care for transgender and nonbinary individuals. Dr. Keith collaborates closely with specialists in Urology, Gynecology, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care. Through GAMMA’s locations in New Jersey and New York City, he continues to advance access to high-quality gender-affirming surgery and holistic support for every patient.
Education & Training
- Completed 7-year residency at the University of Pittsburgh;
- Awarded the Stephen S. Kroll Fellowship in microsurgery at the University Hospital of Gent, Belgium, where he gained experience in cutting edge techniques in microsurgery and transgender surgery.

Dr. Keith offers the simple meta and full metoidioplasty procedures. To minimize urinary complications, Dr. Keith requires vaginectomy if urethral lengthening is being performed. Dr. Keith uses the V-Y scrotoplasty technique which involves the rotation and advancement of labial flaps to create the scrotum.
Dr. Keith's team includes reconstructive urologist Dr. Karl Coutinho, who works with Dr. Keith for implantation of testicular implants. Dr. Coutinho also offers repair surgeries for urological complications following metoidioplasty.
Dr. Keith is affiliated with St. Barnabus Medical Center in Livingston and University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
Surgery Requirements: Dr. Keith follows WPATH guidelines for surgery. Two referrals from qualified mental health professionals are required for Metoidioplasty. You will also need a letter from your hormone specialist stating you have been on 12 months of continuous hormones.
Insurance Accepted: Dr. Keith is an in-network provider with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, and can accept out-of-area BlueCard members with in-network benefits as well. For other private/employer insurance plans, authorization may be possible but coverage isn't guaranteed. Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted. Credit and debit cards are accepted.
